Robert Holcomb
Robert Holcomb Jr, MD, FAAP attended Arizona State University, a dual major in Biomedical & Chemical Engineering. He earned his Medical Degree from Georgetown University. He completed his Residency at Wilford Hall US Air Force Medical Center and Fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Colorado/Denver Children’s Program. Dr Holcomb was a distinguished graduate of Air Force ROTC, and is an 18-year USAF Disabled Veteran.
Dr Holcomb has conducted numerous national and international pediatric & neonatal critical care transports, during combat and peacetime, throughout the US, Europe & Asia, as well as trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific. He has transported in numerous fixed wing aircraft as well as rotary. He served as Commander of the USAF’s second largest Critical Care Air Transport Teams, and as consultant to the USAF Transportation Command Surgeon General. He developed, launched and now runs the HCA Midwest Division, Neonatal & Maternal Transport programs.
Dr Holcomb currently serves as Immediate Past Chair for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Section on Transport Medicine (SOTM). He represents the SOTM on AAP Legislative affairs, and has served time in Washington DC, lobbying for the AAP. He is one of the authors for the AAP SOTM Field Survival Guide, and is Chief Editor for the upcoming 5th Edition, Guidelines for Air and Ground Transport of Neonatal & Pediatric Patients by the AAP. He has been the primary reviewer for the AAP on the 11th and 12th CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) Standards. He also serves as faculty for several international transport conferences, lecturing on various pediatric and neonatal critical care transport topics. Dr Holcomb has served on two separate March of Dimes’ Board of Directors, the Kansas City and Mississippi Chapters, as well as Chaired the Prematurity Campaign for the state of Mississippi, launched in 2002. He has served time in Washington DC, lobbying for the March of Dimes. He currently occupies the AAP seat on the CAMTS Board of Directors.
