Hastings Shade

Hastings Shade was deputy chief of the Cherokee Nation from 1999 to 2003. He accepted the title of Cherokee National Treasure in 1991 for his traditional knowledge. Hasting's teachings and stories are foregrounded in Cherokee Stories of the Turtle Island Liars' Club, which was dedicated to his memory.
