Sir Edward Albert Gait (1863-1950) was a former ICS officer and served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Bihar and Orissa Province in the Bengal Presidency. He was a recipient of the Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire (CIE) and Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India (KCSI). Gait established the Bihar and Orissa Society in 1915 and authored several important works, including the Manual of Local Rules and Orders under Enactments Applying to Assam; North Eastern India (Geography, Archaeology, Forests, Flora, Religion, and Races); and The Assam Immigration Manual.
