Burkhard Schnepel is Professor of Social Anthropology at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg and Acting Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Area Studies, MLU.
He has conducted extensive fieldwork and archival research in Orissa. His habitation, submitted to the South Asia Institute of Heidelberg was published under The Jungle Kings (Manohar, Delhi in 2001) His other publications include Twinned Beings (Gothenborg, 1995) and Durga and the King (in Man, 1995).
Hermann Kulke retired as Professor of South and Southeast Asian History in the Department of History, Kiel University in 2003. He is co-author of A History of India (with D. Rothermund), co-editor of The Cult of Jagannath and the Regional Tradition of Orissa (with A. Eschmann and G.C. Tripathi) and of Hinduism Reconsidered (with G.-D. Sontheimer) and editor of The State in India 1000-1600. He is also co-editor of the series Studies in Orissan Society, Culture and History.
