The History of Basque Music

Throughout history, human groups create, maintain, and modify elements of their musical culture, but little is known of their origins. Through objects and discovered sites, the study of prehistory tries to reconstruct the human past from its origin, from two or three million years ago to 4,000 years ago, when the written record changes the quality of the received information, and beliefs, sentiments, opinions, descriptions, and successes can be transformed into material for memory. With the passage of the time we can count on more and better sources, and although there is not always agreement as to its interpretation, this is a moment that is studied with special zeal because it reveals information on how we become who we are." – The History of Basque Music
