Heike Raphael-Hernandez is professor of English at the University of Maryland University College, Europe and guest professor of American cultural studies at the University of Würzburg, Germany.Raphael-Hernandez is author of Contemporary African American Women Writers and Ernst Bloch’s Principle of Hope (Edwin Mellen, 2008), editor of Blackening Europe: The African American Presence (Routledge, 2004) and co-editor of AfroAsian Encounters: Culture, History, Politics (NYU Press, 2006).
